Announcing the Winners of the 2023-24 Young Artist Competitions

The Pasadena Community Orchestra is thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s competitions.  In the Senior Division, the winner is violinist Ezra Shcolnik, who will perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.  The Junior Division winner is pianist Nathan Pak, who will perform the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2. You will be able to hear these outstanding young artists perform at the Pasadena Community Orchestra’s May 10, 2024 concert.

About the Young Artist Competition. Pasadena Community Orchestra has been promoting and providing solo performance opportunities for young instrumental artists since 1986.  Each year the winner of the Competition has the opportunity to play a concerto with the Orchestra during its upcoming season, as well as receiving a cash prize.  Several previous competitors and winners have gone on to prestigious music schools and careers in music performance. Starting in 2023-24, the Orchestra hosts a Senior Division competition and a Junior Division competition.

A special event! At our March 15 concert, the Orchestra is proud to feature Torrance Buntyn, Jr., who will be the soloist in the contemporary Canadian composer Allen Gordon Bell’s Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra.  Come early to hear Torrance talk at 720pm in the auditorium about the concerto and his association with the Alliance of Black Orchestral Percussionists.
