Nancy Smith grew up in Florida and has been playing the violin since she was in kindergarten. She studied with Sonnhild Kitts (a pioneer Suzuki teacher who studied with Dr. Suzuki in the 1960s), with a brief stint in the Jacksonville Symphony before going to law school. She moved to California in 1981 to practice law, and is a partner with the Nossaman law firm in downtown Los Angeles, representing public agencies using alternative delivery methods to develop public works projects (for example the Gold Line Light Rail Project). She joined the Pasadena Community Orchestra in the mid-1990’s. Since 2004 she has been a member of the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles, and she is certified to teach the O’Connor String Method.
