Don Fisher

Donald joined the Pasadena Community Orchestra in the fall of 1988. He has an outstanding attendance record with the group, and has served as principal bassoonist for over 20 years. He has also served on the board of directors for the orchestra for many years, and has been featured soloist with the group on several occasions.

Donald has been Principal Bassoonist with many symphonies over the years, including American Conservatory Orchestra in Chicago, Evanston Symphony Orchestra, and DuPage Symphony, as well as UCLA Symphonic Band and Orchestra, Opera Pasadena, Occidental College Orchestra, and Cantori Domino Orchestra. He was also Principal Clarinet in the Anaheim Community Band for 25 years and played alto and baritone saxophones in a local swing band. He presently plays with New Valley Symphony and Glendale College Community Orchestra as well as Pasadena Community Orchestra. This summer he will be a featured soloist at Arrowbear Music Camp, where he has a long history as both camper and counselor.

Donald has been on the faculty of UCLA School of Dentistry since the school opened in 1965 – 46 years, including 20 years as department chair and 10 years as director of the faculty group dental practice. He continues to see patients and mentor students at the UCLA campus in spite of being ‘officially’ retired for eleven years. He also has a passion for restoring Austin Healeys, and has been recognized for his successful ventures in restoration.
