Solomon Liang is a junior in the Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach, studying under Professor Linda Rose. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and his family moved to Irvine, California when he was 12. Mr. Liang has recently performed with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Cole Conservatory Symphony Orchestra as the winner of their concerto competitions. Mr. Liang was the grand prize winner of the Music Teachers’ Association of California Statewide VOCE Competition, and played at the MTAC Convention in Santa Clara in 2007. He also won first place in Southwest Youth Music Festival and the California Concert Artists Competition, as well as second place in the Taiwan National Violin Competition. Mr. Liang is the recipient of the Fine Arts Affiliates/Dean’s Scholarship for Distinction in the Arts for the past two years. He was also the recipient of Yamaha Instrumental Scholarship in 2007. Solomon is the concertmaster of the Cole Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the University String Quartet. In the past, he had been the concertmaster of the All Southern California Honor Orchestra, Irvine District Honor Orchestra, University High School Symphony Orchestra, and first violinist of the Aspen Music Festival Sinfonia, Bowdoin Chamber Orchestra, and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Solomon has recently played in a master class taught by Martin Chalifour, the concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Last year, Mr. Liang’s trio performed in Midori Goto’s chamber music master class. He has also worked with Henry Gronnier, Jeanne Lamon, Joel Smirnoff, Joan Kwuon, Mikhail Kopelman, Sergiu Schwartz, Oleh Krysa, Paul Kantor, Virginia Weckstrom, Cyrus Forough, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the Avalon String Quartet. He has been a scholarship student of many music festivals, including Bowdoin International Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and School, Summit Music Festival, and California Chamber Music Institute. In his spare time, Solomon enjoys going out to movies, playing ping-pong, and spending quality time with friends. |
